20×20
By Brian Byrne 11th March 2020
This Thursday, March 12th at 7 pm we are hosting our first 20×20 event at The Sky and the Ground in Wexford. Join Fuse:d, the 100 Archive and a host of creative people and businesses for an evening of visual storytelling.
The presentation format is simple—our speakers must create a presentation, containing 20 slides, related t0 their business or career. Each slide can only be on screen for 20 seconds, hence the name, 20×20. The format ensures each presentation is short and sharp, so our guests will have to get creative. I can’t wait to see what they come up with.
We have a diverse range of guests from the world of art, photography, architecture and design—our speakers on the night are…
Frank Abruzzese, originally from Philadelphia, is a father, artist, educator, and avid cook. Along with his wife Rosie O’Gorman, they are Co-Founders and Co-Directors of Cow House Studios, a progressive, artist-run school, and residency program in Rathnure, Co Wexford. Frank obtained his Bachelors Degree in Moving Image Arts from the College of Santa Fe, New Mexico in 2000, and Master of Fine Arts from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2004. His work has been featured in Domus magazine, was part of the 2012 Istanbul Design Biennial, and resides in the permanent collection of the Office of Public Works. He received the Emerging Photographer of the Year award from San Francisco Magazine, and as a photographer, exhibits internationally in galleries and universities.
Caolan Barron is an Irish artist from Wexford Town. Specialising in portraiture and documentary photography, he found his way to the medium by chance after winning a bet on horse and subsequently buying his first camera with the winnings. “I grew up in a pub so I’ve always been interested in people. A camera gives you a license to interact with people and places. I love that” More recently, his work includes design and creative direction as well as commercial photography.
Billie Jean Doheny describes herself as “Feral 90’s kid, raised by wolves, horror movies, MTV and videogames equally.” She’s a Graphic Design student by day and wannabe filmmaker by night. A graduate of the Gorey School of Art, she’s currently attempting to survive third year in IT Carlow. Previously she was a content creator and coordinator for GameStop Northern Europe and Social Media, Design and Event Manager for ’WexWorlds’. Bille Jean is currently on the organisational team for ‘WhyDesign’ and an extra pair of hands for ‘Mind Over Matter’.”
Bernadette Doolan is an award-winning Irish artist, living in Wexford. She is the winner of the best overall work by a non-Academician, and winner of the Irish News award for depicting Ireland today, in The Royal Ulster Academy annual exhibition. Bernadette was selected for The Ruth Borchard self-portrait Exhibition, the UK’s only public collection of self-portraits by British and Irish artists. The Ruth Borchard Collection represents the very best of twentieth-century and contemporary self-portraiture.
Rosanne Lancaster is a graphic designer based in Gorey, where she divides her time between freelancing and working at CK Signs Ltd, a small design, print and signage company. She primarily works in identity design, branding and design for print. With a keen interest in design history and visual culture, this is her second year leading on the 100 Archive’s ‘In With The New’ article series.
Brian McDonald is an award-winning and published Wexford based Digital Photographer specialising in landscape, seascape and wide-field astrophotography. He is a distinction holder with the Irish Photography Federation and the International Federation of Photographic Art.
Cathal O’Leary, Director of O’Leary Sludds Architects, studied architecture in UCD. He is a Registered RIAI award-winning architect with over 20 years’ experience. Cathal believes that the real challenge facing an architect is designing a building that is both beautiful and functional. Cathal tends to be an intuitive designer, relying heavily on his instincts to create innovative and unique buildings and spaces.
The event is an excellent opportunity to promote business, build brand awareness, meet new people and engage with Wexford’s creative community. We would love to see you there! If you’d like to come along please register here: bit.ly/20X20WEX
